Trivia

The title for this episode is an allusion to a famous quote "We have met the enemy and he is us" from "Pogo" a comic strip (1948 to 1975) created by Walt Kelly. Kelly´s quote was in turn based on a message sent by Commodore Perry in 1813, "We have met the enemy, and they are ours."

Another brilliant 1st Season must-see. The late Christopher Stone's and Raymond St Jacques' intense performances as Col. Marty Vidor + Seko Logana are just awe-inspiring. "Slow down, damn it! I've seen it, I've felt it, and I've had enough of it! Now slow down!" is just a classic piece of dialogue. But it's the sublime subtleties of the acting in this episode that I love... e.g. the wry smile when Hawke tries to take out the sniper in the parked Airwolf just shows how good JMV's acting abilities were focused with good direction in the 1st Season. "We have met the enemy... and they are us."

"We have met the enemy ... and they are us." What more can be said? I love this episode, one of my favorites. Pretty much what Mark said, I agree with. But I can add one thing, ... the ending action sequence is one the top-five of the entire series. Kag212

Another Season 1 fav for me. This well-acted ep leads us into the first story involving someone who possibly knows about St. John. This twist provides the dose of mystery that can only enhance the action! And the Leah Logana character portrayed by Belinda Tolbert gave an outstanding performance compared to her prior role in "The Jeffersons"

This one's top shelf... We also see how Hawke and Santini are beginning to gel as a team in combat... their interaction in the opening moments of the battle, show a clear progression from Dominic's days of not knowing where everything was. We also see... not all of the fight, is Hawke's brilliant pilotage... it's also in their ability to monitor the progression of the battle, and use Airwolf to turn what looks like a bad situation, to their advantage. So this, throws water on the 'super pilot' mindset that some might get of Hawke... and puts something more real in place... "A smart man that knows when he needs teamwork to make his abilities count." The characters in this episode were good quality, and the writers really were paying attention to their jobs... Paul

We Have Met The Enemy! And They Are US! What more can be said. One of the best episodes ever.

Liked it lots. First time we actually see Archangel come up with info for Hawke as his part of the bargain re his brother and the fact that Vidor dies claiming to know something gives it a heart-stopping moment where you just have to feel for Hawke. Like I said, liked it lots.

"We have met the enemy, and they are us!" I love this episode! Vidor/ Bodai Thung has got to be one of the best written anti-villains in the entire series! Noone mentioned the terrific score by Levay! Can´t wait to hear Cairns´s version in ´06!! Great editting, and action sequences; so much that they incorporated them into the titles for the series last two years! I just love Vidor´s swan song at the end. A chill runs through me when he utters his LAST line,... every time ("I know where St.John IS!!)! Awesome episode!

Ah, what a performance from Christopher Stone. His Vidor was at once self- tortured and near mad in his embrace of the thing he´d become.Powerful (and unsaid) stuff between String and Mrs. Logana. And take note of Hawkes´ reaction to being called a racist by the president; true heroes pay no attention to premature character judgements when there´s work to do.
Great action (a nodd to Capricorn One when the helicopters turned to look at eachother), great drama, and another killer score from Mr. Levay.

One of the best episodes of the whole series. We finally see Archangel presenting Hawke with some kind of information that St John might still be alive. I can never get this episode´s music score out of my head, it´s a very cold and solid tune that gave this episode the right mood. Christoper Stone played the part of Col Vedor very well and he and Vincent were a thrill to watch on screen. When i first watched this episode in 2001 i skipped watching the opening teaser, so when Vedor shouts to Hawke "I KNOW WHERE ST JOHN IS" It was a real shock to me then only to then see vedor on purpose crash his chopper, my eyes were as wide as Hawke´s, what a finish.

Vidor's helicopter lures Airwolf to his 4-chopper army, but when a shot shows the 4 choppers descending behind a hill waiting for Airwolf to arrive, it shows Vidor's chopper in the middle, even though it's not there yet.

samw as above but as well as that when it shows you the scope you can see 6 choppers when there is only five

Reused scenes from the preceding episode! (Mad Over Miami): Two of the graphics shown for Dom's screen are the same as the preceding episode---the island topographic with two targets and the graphic of sea giving way to land. One of the ending helicopter explosions was taken directly from Mad Over Miami.

When shooting the helicopters during the dog fight, you can hear missiles firing, but no missiles came out.

during the dogfight there are eight plibs and there are only five choppers

When Hawke and Dom are leading the president to the back of Airwolf to protect him from the sniper, at one point they seem behind the Lady, but suddenly in the next shot they are further back again.

While String and Vidor are having a drink, ("Death is always a hell of a lot easier") you can hear either String's or Vidor's watch beeping.

02 Oct 2005, nutaboutjc 30:
When you see airwolf going after vidor in the final battle you can see the red tower ride from magic mountain in the background. I had to watch a couple of times but its there and you can´t miss it. You have to look very closely.

22 Oct 2009, imissnm07 39:
The first scene of String after he is shot shows him lyeing on a bed asleep with his left arm resting on his leg then a few seconds later (the dialogue never stops so it has to be a few seconds later) String´s left hand is up by his head right before he wakes up. Then when Dom enters the room, String is putting on his belt and buckeling it with his flight suit zipped down then as he and Dom run out the door, String is putting on his belt again and his flightsuit is zipped up. Maybe he had to readjust on the run out?
