Airwolf is a futuristic action adventure about an awesome billion dollar helicopter equipped with a twin-turbine drum rotor system capable of propelling it to 300 knots, plus fourteen firepower options.
When the helicopter is purloined by Libyan mercenaries, Michael Archangel, project director of the CIA, enlists the help of Vietnam veteran Stringfellow Hawke and his father´s best friend Dominic Santini in an attempt to recover Airwolf. A mission which takes them to the Middle East, where they come face to face with the enemy in a dirty battle to repossess the deadliest aerial weapon ever used.

A great beginning to a series! This two-parter (or complete movie) has great drama, suspense, mystery, and some comical relief provided by Ernie. Probably has the darkest aura compared to the rest of the episodes in my opinion.

The pilot episode concludes with amazing action scenes - plus the tension of the final confrontation between String and Moffett.
Gabrielle's death remains the saddest moment of all Airwolf episodes - String firing the empty ADF pod over and over again says it all.
An eternal favourite, and a must for every collection.

Shadow of the Hawke, originally aired in the US, not as some silly two parter... but a two hour
pilot movie showing on CBS on Jan. 22, 1984... Folks... it just doesn't get any better than this.
Forget political correctness... the heck with 'child friendly' stories... forget lovey-dovey
endings... forget sappy sequences... This movie has it all without that nonsense. Gripping from
the opening credits, this movie will take you on the wildest and most harrowing ride of your life,
to hell and back again. It's a dark story, with some very 'unvarnished' moments of violence and
intrigue... In the movie, you see the fighter, the lover, the hero, and the damned... and all four of
those things are found in one man, Stringfellow Hawke. From start to finish, it's the nirvana of
his acting career, in my mind... the role of a lifetime. It's not an easy role, playing the
anti-hero... the ordinary man, with extraordinary grit, facing unimaginable risk and horror in the
name of his Nation. The action sequences pull no punches, right down to the villain's demise...
and through this we see, once and for all... sometimes the gloves and niceties have to go out the
window in order to uphold the right. It's not pretty... it's not romantic... and Hawke's sacrifices,
will never be known to the world in which he lives... No medals... no parades... just get the job
done, before Airwolf, under the control of a maniac, wreaks death and destruction on a world
that already has more than enough to go around. This is THE one episode that every Airwolf fan
should have in their library... without it... the whole point of the story of Airwolf would be
missed. Paul

Yes, dammit, I cry like a baby every time Hawke holds Gabrielle in the desert. And then I marvel at the way Bellisario captured Airwolf´s flight of pure vengeance (and rage) as she brushes off Libya´s defense force (like a simple nuisance) for a shot (no pun) at Moffett! Priceless shot of season one: Hawke holding the lifeless Gabrielle in his arms turns to see Moffett´s jeeptracks in the nearby desert sands! Go get ´im String. Also, "String,...its over."

It taps into on of the greatest ( sometimes hidden) fears a person can have; the inability to prtect those you love. Nearly flawless.

I first saw this on USA network when it was a 2 hour movie. Yes, this is not one of the episodes written to keep the children happy. I can see the Government looking the other way at suspected criminal behavior of a Genius working for them, like Moffet, hinted at just before he ripped up Red Star Control in Part 1. Part 2 is where it all comes together: Get Airwold back at almost any cost before a US-Soviet showdown starts over Libya. Dom came in very handy in several situations. String really warmed up to Gabrielle as time went on, setting the stage for the heartbreak of her death. She had promised that she wouldn´t die, but the curse upon Stringfellow Hawke hit again.
Like my wife comment one time I was watching this episode where Gabrielle just died:"He (Moffet) just signed his death warrant!" Following this was the most determined action sequence that String ever went on in the whole series. Finding Moffet, String totally empties all the ordinance (except maybe the chain guns?), causing Dom, a war vet himself, to cringe at one point during the barrage, then Dom almost pleading him to stop by telling him it´s over. Then, the bald faced lie String tells Archangel when asked if she suffered. Finally, the eagle that Gabrielle mentioned she wanted to see as she was dying coming back to a tree near String at his cabin.
A worthy start to the series.

God where to begin. I loved this one the best. It was a great completion to an awesome movie. The String Gabrille romance was good. i loved the part where she told him to throw back the fish and then he made fun of her by eating. that was rich!! But what really got me going was the last part of it. I had a box of tissue at this point. When she died in his arms Boom bawling!! And the way String just kept firing at Moffett you just wanted to jump up and down with praise. I loved the ending with the eagle..that totally got me going. Just the way Gabrille wanted to see it and String just started crying..I was reaching for more tissues and I was hooked forever more.

Awesome! I loved the way String told Archangel,"No I saved it for you!"After discussing the confiscation of his art collection.ON a sad note I hated that Gabrielle died, even though I could see it coming I tried to deny it was going to happen. In my opinion Moffet got off easy,String should´ve staked him to a sand dune and tortured his fat butt until he pleaded for mercy, then performed the coup de gras with his boot! Anyway,Sorry I was so bitter, but I loved Gabrielle too!:) C´mon where´s all the Airwolf fans? The last review was in ´05!

What can I say? Awesome! The calibre and quality of Shadow of the Hawke surpasses all of the other episodes in the series - including some of my favourites. Dark, suspenseful, with an excellent character driven plot, superbly penned by Donald Bellasario, combined with high quality performances from the cast. Not to mention the best villain in Airwolf in the form of David Hemmings´ portrayal of Charles Henry Moffett.

Loved this episode the most out of all the series.
Can relate to the anger that String-Fellow has as he hunts down Moffet after gabrielle dies. I spent 6 mths waiting for my x - husband to return from a War Zone and at times during those 6 mths there were some hairy times waiting to see if my x - partner been the one killed in battle. Its a horrible sinking feeling and I think Jan-Michael portrayed his charcter very well after gabrielle dies.

when airwolf lifts off out of kadafis palace, you clearly see 2 sound men with a sound boom!
05 Feb 2002, Martin G. Grant 22:
The 6th missile that Hawke fires at the already-dead Moffet is the same shot used in the finale battle, and it isn't anywhere near the jeep or Moffet as it lands on a seperate sand dune.
09 May 2002, BrendanL79 31:
When Airwolf lands in the desert to retrieve the nearly-dead Gabrielle, the pilot is seated in the port (left-hand) seat, and the close-up shows JMV getting out of Airwolf on the port side. But when they first took off, at the palace, String was in the starboard seat (his usual position.)
08 Sep 2002, geordie greg 28:
when Airwolf was flying through the desert while the ground forces are trying to shoot airwolf, airwolf flies through a dust cloud and is dusty, the next scene it is spotless.
07 Jan 2003, hazmatt 34:
when the army commander tells string to "lift your visor" it sure does take a long time to raise. I could be wrong but I didn't know the visor motor had speed controls. Dominic has airwolf completely running befor the visor is completely up.
31 Aug 2003, Solid Snake 27:
When Hawke and Dom on their way to Valley of The Gods, Hawke gives details to Dom about getting to the Red Castle, then Hawke says "I´ll fly to the terminal and wait for you on Wednesday". When Hawke said that line, notice there´s a shadow of the Jet Ranger helicopter on Hawke´s left side window and passes by and zooms off to the right.
21 Sep 2004, kentrj 26:
When Hawk tells Dom to bring out the the chain guns and ADF pods, you see them extract, after Dom says ´set´ Hawk lifts off with the weapons deployed, but the next scene with airwolf you see Airwolf from behind with no guns at all.
15 Nov 2008, JHawke 35:
When Hawke & Santini get Airwolf from the palace, Hawke tells Santini to "start the engines." Then Santini gets in from the pilots side. In the next screenshot of Santini, he is just sitting down in the back. He must of had fun climbing over the pilots seat, flight controls, center console, folding the co-pilots seat foreward, and getting into the rear of the helecopter at breakneck speed.

Hi,
So this isn´t necessarily a blooper but more of of a prop issue.
The computer always sits in front of Dom that he folds up and down is actually a Workslate that was designed by convergent technologies. Here is a link: http://www.old-computers.com/museum/computer.asp?st=1&c=891
I reconized it when I was at a yard sale and picked it up.
Funny to think that Dom´s in the back doing spreadsheets for the firm and calculating how much each flight was costing them.
