In order to keep Dominic´s friendship, Hawke agrees to let the older man fly a dangerous movie stunt, but Archangel asks Hawke to take over in order to catch the master criminal, Philip Maurice, causing a huge rift in the friendship of Hawke and Santini. The rift is healed when Hawke asks Dominic to back him up by flying Airwolf in order to apprehend the criminals, who are planning to steal a gold shipment from a moving truck.

I've personally never liked this episode much, even though it's a great espionage script and the Firm have plenty to do. A great performance from Alex Cord, especially when he growls how much he wants revenge on Philip Maurice for what happened to a former lover. The Guest cast though, I've never liked -- I think Henry Darrow was the wrong choice for Maurice, but that's just a personal view. But this episode does have some great scenes, and it only stands out for me ONLY for the falling out between Hawke and Dom.... and when Ernie punches JMV square on the jaw, well it just shows what a world-class actor Ernie actually is. This was a good episode for me, but could have been better. Dom's mid-life crisis adds drama, and the end sequence was good. String and Dom making amends at the end was touching.

I agree with Mark, not a very good episode. Probably the 'absolute' worst of the 1st Season. Easily beaten by anything from the 4th Season. And that's saying something! The fighting going on between String & Dom make it watchable. Fighting should have been in the 3rd Season, after their characters had been more established. Kag212

Very good episode that I really enjoyed. It features some great lines between Hawke & Dom as well as a quite good plot. Furthermore, I really admired the stunts with the truck both at the beginning and at the end of the episode. My favorite scene was when Dominic was trying to land forgetting to put the landing gears out because it is funny but also because that (as well as the fact that he couldn't use the turbos) shows that he had to learn more about Airwolf before being able to pilot it as well as Hawke (a little more realistic than the 4th season crew that can fly the Lady perfectly the first time they saw it).

I like how Ernest Borgine uses his performance in this episode. He expresses his acting like a father and son relationship between him the character, Stringfellow Hawke.

This one fell short of six... but not by much...
String being stuck between the rock and the hard place... made this one a keeper...
Having to put his closeness with Dom on the line, in order to satisfy Archangel's mission, and then juggling those two things... Dominic's feelings, and the mission... and bringing both to a good conclusion, shows again the depth of his love for Dominic, as well as his sense of duty and knowing how to juggle the two.
Seeing the look on Dominic's face, when String suggested that Dom would be backing him up in Airwolf, made this episode very well worth it. And I admit... I didn't mind seeing Dom lay five across String's kisser either.;-)
This one's a keeper.

Hawke, Archangel and Dominic all have plenty of screen time in this episode. Very character driven especially the infamous moment when Dom hits Stringfellow. Its interesting to see how when String is feuding with Dominic, he turns to Archangel and is much more civil to him than he can be, for instance in the pilot or Fight Like A Dove.

Now we're talkin! Ernie smashing Jan-Michaels' face in and the facial expression on his face is simply unbelievable and hugely entertaining and repetable. A class aerial sequence at the end, with the Jet Ranger landing on a moving truck, Santini attempting to land The Lady with no wheels and the cool orchestral arrangements by Sly Levay makes this a favourite for me!

One of my favourite episodes due to character interaction. I thought Henry Darrow was a good villain as he seemed completely believeable. Of note, I read elsewhere, and the 1st season will bear me out that originally in Airwolf DPB was trying for as realistic a series as possible with the same level of character development used in shows like "Hill Street Blues" and "St. Elsewhere". I think he used this to slightly smaller effect in Magnum as the seasons progressed. Just shows what aspirations were held for Airwolf before CBS stuck their fingers in to the pie.

Another personal favorite of mine, the character interatcion is excellent, and the emotion shown by Ernie as Dominic is unforgettable. The biggest guilty pleasure of this episode is the scene where String is flying Airwolf through the snow-covered valley of the gods as he is thinking of what he is personally going through with Dom. And the musi for that scene works perfectly, adds to the whole mood of the scene.

This was the worst episode of the 1st season for me - the story is just tripe but having said that..Ernest Borgnine shines in this episode, loved the scene where Hawke flew Airwolf and considered his options (shame we couldn´t have more of this throughout the show), loved the fact that they could fall out (another shame that they didn´t do it again in another episode).

One of the best acted and scripted epsiodes of the series. Dom´s best performance, and you really feel for Hawke who is put in a hopeless position. The theme music of this episode is also great. Having said that, there´s not too much action, and the ending aerial could have been better. They could have at least gave Maurice a rocket launcher so we would feel a little suspense in the end sequence.

Another personal favorite simply for the human conflict between Dominic and String! Superb script and great visuals of Airwolf. Another fine all-star guest cast, and a great aerial sequence at the end. The anger felt in Hawke´s game of ´chicken´ harkens back to his final encounter with Moffett in the ´pilot´. You can feel Hawke´s ire at Henry Darrow for pitting him against Dominic (his true father figure). Great to see Hawke take the Lady out for a spin while he mulls over recent events! (I´d ´a done it too,...and more often!) My favorite part is Dom´s reaction to the opportunity to fly backup (his first solo jaunt in the Lady): "How about in Airwolf?" Priceless. Well done!! Well done indeed!

A little more action would´ve pushed to a 6 for me, but excellent dialogue makes it a must - have! When String talks about the " man made cracks in these bones" I get the feeling I´m listening to a real person, not a super-hero.

Nice to see Dom finally flying Airwolf. I think the fall out between Hawke and Dom made this episode stand out because it was the only time it happened in the whole series. I love the music score when Hawke is flying Airwolf solo and he´s going through his mind on what he should do. Not a great episode but still a decent one.

I like this episode since you see how much Dom cares for String and vise versa...i still go inot shock when Dom hits String and when he tells him to fight him like a man you can see String back down...I love the part where string flies Airwolf by himself and going over everything in his head..you can see the anguish on his face from everything because he cares for Dom very much..I love the ending where String has Maurice and you can see the look of hurt on his face...man I just love this epiosde!!!

The opening sequence shows a film crew shooting a Hughes 500 about to land on top of a moving truck. Just before the director Stayes says ''That idiot is gonna run outta road!'', the shadow of the actual filming JetRanger appears on the sand dunes.

after hawke has jumped from the helicopter the new piolt is sitting in the left seat fighting to keep the helicopter stable. But after it lifts of he is amazingly siting in the right hand seat.

The scene when Dom drives into the lair, as he climbs out of his jeep to walk towards the Lady the camera widens out and you can clearly see parts of the studio wall with a ladder. As the camera moves with Dom the studio wall section then ends and the studio cave is shown.

The beige suit worn by Stringfellow is the same one he wore at the Red Castle in Shadow of the Hawk. However, in Shadow, the FIRM's minion who met Hawke at the Orlea airport said the clothes she gave him were "used". I doubt he bothered to pack a "used" suit for his escape trip with Airwolf.

When Hawke is piloting the helicopter onto the back of the truck, at one point it seems directly over-head and about to touch down, but suddenly in the next shot (possibly over an ad break) is further back again. [Courtesy of Jayson Firestorm ¿ Airwolf editor @ TVTome.com]

As the robbers exit the chopper when it has landed on the back of the truck, its obviously a sound set ¿ nothing (their hair, etc.) doesn't seem to be blowing as much as it should from the current of the helicopter blades. [Courtesy of Jayson Firestorm ¿ Airwolf editor @ TVTome.com]

At the climax, when Hawke and Dominic are in Airwolf forcing the robbers to land their helicopter, the escaping chopper several times banks sharply to the side. During the robbery we didn't see if the gold was strapped down or not, but even so, surely it would spill over or tip out with such severe manoeuvres. I have the king of all bloopers for this episode. The bell 206 jetranger used for the robbery was dominics bell from his own business clearly, beacause he is preparing it earlier in the show, so why the hell does string blow it up at the end. I mean little bloopers are ok but come on don bellisaro that's just not thinging clearly. String also blew up the gold too!!
07 Jan 2003, hazmatt 34:
one other blooper i caught was when string is firing the chain guns at the robber you can clearly see that the round fixtures on the wing pods are strobe lights to give the illusion that the guns are firing, still looks pretty real, I mean it took me 18 years to catch it.

When Dom is flying the lady out of the lair you can clearly see it is Strings hands because if the MIA bracelet he wears. It took me a couple of times watching the DVD to catch that!!

At the end of the episode when Dom and String are cutting the log with the hand saw, the first two camera angles show the saw half way thru the log and on the third take the saw is only about 2 inches down in the log as if they had just started cutting.
26 Aug 2008, nutaboutjc 30:
I dont know if this is a blooper or not but I was always wondering what Dom called Michael bcause you hear Meryl say"Did he just call you that?"
12 Dec 2008, Shep2112 35:
There´s a shot where they have loaded a lot (or maybe all) of the gold, and you can clearly see the floor of the chopper and there is nothing gold on it, much less a stack of gold there! :)
